The target population for this project includes all students served by the 3rd grade math team, benefiting approximately all 3rd grade learners across multiple classrooms throughout the school year. Grant funds will be used to purchase durable Wipebook flipcharts and reusable writing surfaces that students will use during whole-group instruction, small-group intervention, math stations, collaborative problem-solving tasks, number talks, and guided practice activities. Activities will take place daily within 3rd grade math classrooms and will become an integrated part of instruction across all math content areas including multiplication, division, fractions, problem-solving, place value, and geometry.
Currently, many students rely heavily on ipads and workbooks completed independently at their desks. While this approach provides practice opportunities, it often limits student discourse, movement, collaboration, and opportunities for teachers to monitor thinking in real time. Wipebook surfaces will allow students to stand, collaborate with peers, solve problems together, and visibly display mathematical thinking. Teachers will be able to immediately identify misconceptions, ask higher-level questions, and provide timely intervention during the learning process rather than waiting until assignments are graded. This project includes several SMART objectives to ensure measurable impact on student learning. By the end of the school year, at least 85% of 3rd grade students will demonstrate increased participation and engagement during math instruction as measured through classroom observation data, teacher checklists, and student participation tracking. Additionally, at least 75% of students will show growth in mathematical problem-solving and reasoning skills as measured by district assessments, classroom formative assessments, and math benchmark data. Students will also increase their ability to explain mathematical thinking verbally and visually through collaborative learning tasks and group discussions conducted throughout the year.
