The purpose of this project is to purchase the Lakeshore Hands-On Phonological Awareness Kit & centers for my kindergarten classroom at Barrett Elementary. This hands-on literacy resource will provide engaging activities that help students develop essential phonological awareness skills, including rhyming, syllable segmentation, sound identification, blending, and phoneme manipulation. These foundational skills are critical for reading success and support students as they become confident, independent readers.
This kit and centers will be used during whole-group instruction, literacy centers, and small-group interventions to meet the diverse learning needs of all students. By providing interactive and developmentally appropriate learning experiences, this project will strengthen early literacy skills, increase student engagement, and improve reading readiness for all kindergarten learners.
Many kindergarten students enter school with varying levels of phonological awareness, making it difficult for some to develop the foundational skills needed for reading success. Students need engaging, hands-on opportunities to practice rhyming, sound identification, blending, and segmenting sounds. The Lakeshore Hands-On Phonological Awareness Kit and centers will provide interactive, developmentally appropriate activities that support whole-group instruction, literacy centers, and small-group intervention. These resources will help strengthen early literacy skills, increase student engagement, and build a strong foundation for future reading achievement.
The Lakeshore Hands-On Phonological Awareness Kit and centers will be used to provide daily, engaging, and hands-on literacy instruction for my kindergarten students. This project will directly support students in developing essential early reading skills such as rhyming, syllable segmentation, identifying beginning and ending sounds, blending, and phoneme manipulation.
By the end of the school year, at least 85% of students will demonstrate growth in phonological awareness skills as measured by classroom assessments, progress monitoring, and literacy screeners. Students will participate in structured activities during whole-group instruction, literacy centers, and small-group intervention at least three times per week. These activities will take place in my kindergarten classroom and will serve all students, including those needing additional support.
This project will improve student learning by providing differentiated, interactive practice that meets students at their individual skill levels. The materials will allow students to learn through movement, visuals, and hands-on engagement, which is especially important for young learners. The kit will help close early literacy gaps, increase student confidence, and build the foundation needed for future reading success.
This project supports the district’s mission of personalizing learning by giving students targeted instruction based on their needs. It also supports our campus goal of improving literacy achievement by providing meaningful early intervention.
