My students are naturally curious, creative, and excited to learn through hands-on experiences. They love opportunities to build, collaborate, and solve problems together, especially when learning feels interactive and meaningful. Many of my students thrive when they are able to create and explore rather than simply complete traditional assignments. I want to give them opportunities to strengthen their confidence, communication, and critical thinking skills through engaging STEM activities in robotics. 

Our school has never had a lego robotics program so this will be an exciting program for our students in third through fifth grade to build, discover, create and solve real-world problems by creating solutions with robots.

The Power of STEM
This "hands-on" style of learning is a massive deal, especially when it comes to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

The world is changing fast, and the coolest future jobs—from designing video games to solving major climate puzzles—are going to need people who know how to think outside the box. Even the U.S. Department of Education says that to solve tomorrow's biggest problems, we need students who are ready to dive into STEM today.

But nobody wants to just stare at a boring textbook all day. The absolute best way to master STEM is to get your hands dirty with projects that are:

Hands-on: You get to build, test, and break things.

Minds-on: It makes you think and ask "why?"

Collaborative: You get to do it all alongside your friends.

The Bottom Line: Learning shouldn't just be about memorizing facts for a test. It’s about exploring, playing, and building skills that will stay with you forever!

The LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential STEAM curriculum units for elementary students are built around playful, narrative-based problem-solving. By exploring relatable, real-world themes, young learners are empowered to develop into independent, critical STEAM thinkers.
I know this resource will make a lasting impact because my students are most engaged when they are actively creating and discovering. Access to robotics and coding at an early age can inspire students to see themselves as future engineers, inventors, and problem-solvers.

The three Rs of robotics are Repeatability (consistency of task performance), Reliability (dependability of operation), and Robustness (resilience to varying conditions).

The LEGO Education SPIKE Essential kits will help students develop foundational coding, engineering, and problem-solving skills in a fun and accessible way.
Through building and programming LEGO models, students will work together to think creatively, test ideas, and learn through trial and error. This resource will also allow us to launch our school’s first FIRST LEGO League Explore team, giving students the opportunity to participate in hands-on STEM learning experiences that promote teamwork, perseverance, and innovation.
he comprehensive Ccntent includes 10 curriculum units tailored to meet national standards for both lower and upper elementary grades.

Lego learning features over 100+ hours of classroom content in total. Each unit consists of five to eight 45-minute STEAM lessons, complete with dedicated language arts and math extensions to deepen understanding.

During each lesson, students brainstorm, test, and develop creative solutions through trial and error while actively collaborating with their peers.
