Boozed and Confused uses Drunk Goggles to teach the dangers of drunk or impaired driving. This would be taught as part of the Forensic Science Curriculum while studying Toxicology. By allowing students to experience levels of impairment while using the goggles they will be shown how the impairment affects decision making and completing tasks while driving. As a result, students will be able to make better decisions about drinking and driving.
1 in 4 car crashes with teens involve an underage drunk driver (MADD). Approximately half of teens have tried alcohol by the age of 15 (MADD). Our students are not immune to the effects of alcohol and the impact it can have on our community of young drivers. I am wanting to incorporate these impairment goggles into the Forensic Science curriculum in hopes that our teens will see how impacted their driving and decision making can be altered by the effects of alcohol. There are approximately 250 students enrolled in Forensic Science at Crosby High School each year. Over a 4 year span I can help close to 1,000 Crosby young adults on the dangers of drunk and impaired driving by allowing them to see the effects first hand.
The 10-Pack includes: 1 Low Level BAC Goggle .04 - .06 BAC , 1 Low Level BAC Nighttime Goggle .06 - .08 BAC, 2 Impairment Goggles .08-.15 BAC, 1 Twilight Vision Impairment Goggle .15 - .25 BAC, 1 Totally Wasted Goggle .26 - .35 BAC, 1 Drug Impairment Goggle, 1 Snooze Drowsy & Distracted Goggle, 1 Cannabis Goggle and 1 Ecstasy/Molly/LSD Goggle. I plan to have students complete various tasks while wearing the different levels of impairment goggles. They will observe their partner and make observations while they attempt to perform the various tasks. By trying to complete the tasks at different levels of impairment and observing peers trying to complete the tasks students will have a more clear and relatable idea of how impairment can affect driving. Students learn when they experience things first hand and that is the objective of this project. Our community loves our students and we want to encourage safe and smart decision making. This project will help thousands of students make better choices in their decisions through hands on activities and help our community to be more safe in return.
