The Culinary Arts program at Crosby High School is requesting funding to purchase a Sony ZV-1F Vlog Camera, SmallRig CT25 Professional Overhead Aluminum Alloy Tripod, and LG 65-inch UA7050 Series AI 4K UHD Smart TV to enhance classroom instruction through high-quality live cooking demonstrations.
As a hands-on Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, Culinary Arts prepares students for careers in the hospitality and food service industries while developing skills in food preparation, baking, sanitation, knife techniques, restaurant management and more. This technology will allow every student to clearly observe demonstrations of culinary techniques in real time, regardless of where they are working in the classroom. By improving visibility and engagement, these tools will strengthen student understanding, increase confidence during lab activities, and support greater success in earning industry certifications and developing career-ready skills.
Currently, students must gather around a demonstration table to observe cooking techniques. Because of limited visibility, many students are unable to clearly see important details such as knife positioning, measuring techniques, food textures and consistency, proper sanitation procedures, etc. This often results in repeated demonstrations, increased questions during lab activities, and inconsistent student performance.
A demonstration camera connected to a large television would allow every student to clearly view each step of the cooking process from anywhere in the classroom. This technology would provide close-up views of food preparation while allowing the instructor to maintain eye contact, explain techniques thoroughly, and emphasize critical safety procedures.
This project will directly increase student engagement by making demonstrations more interactive, accessible, and visually clear for every learner. Expected outcomes include increased student participation during demonstrations, greater confidence before beginning an assignment, improved understanding of culinary techniques, higher quality food production, fewer instructional interruptions during lab activities, increased student independence, and improved food safety practices.
The technology will also support diverse learning styles by providing visual learners with a clear, detailed view of each technique while reinforcing verbal instruction.
