This project will provide a new speaker system for the marching band to improve instruction, communication, and student performance during rehearsals and performances. Our current system is out of date and no longer reliable, making it difficult for students to hear verbal instruction and music clearly across our practice field. A modern, high-quality sound system will create a more efficient and safer rehearsal environment while enhancing performances at football games, contests, and community events. 

The Crosby Band Program currently serves approximately 500 band students, all of whom will directly benefit from this project. During marching season, students rehearse outdoors on a football/practice field where they are spread across a large area, making clear communication essential for effective instruction and student safety. Our current speaker system is outdated and no longer provides the volume, clarity, or reliability needed to ensure every student can hear verbal instruction, musical examples, metronome settings, or emergency announcements. This results in lost instructional time, repeated directions, and inconsistent rehearsal quality. As our band program has experienced steady growth over the past several years, the limitations of our current equipment have become increasingly apparent. A reliable sound system is a critical instructional tool that allows every student, regardless of their position on the field, to receive the same information at the same time. Clear audio improves rehearsal efficiency, strengthens student learning, and allows directors to spend more time teaching musical and visual concepts rather than repeating instructions that were not heard. This project will directly impact every member of the marching band while also benefiting the broader school community. The sound system will be used for football games, pep rallies, community performances, and other school events throughout the year, expanding its impact beyond the band program. Replacing this essential equipment will improve the quality of instruction, create a safer rehearsal environment through clear communication, and provide students with the resources they need to perform at their highest level.

The goal of this project is to improve the quality of instruction, communication, and student performance by replacing the marching band’s outdated speaker system with a reliable, high-quality audio system. The new equipment will be implemented immediately upon delivery, allowing students to benefit throughout rehearsals, football games, performances, and competitions during the 2026–2027 school year. Approximately 140 marching band students will directly benefit from this project, while the broader school community will experience improved performances and school events supported by the new system.

This project supports student learning by ensuring every student can clearly hear verbal instruction, musical demonstrations, metronome settings, and performance recordings regardless of where they are positioned on the field. Outdoor rehearsals require students to be spread across a large performance area, and consistent audio is essential for maintaining instructional continuity. With dependable sound equipment, rehearsal time will be used more efficiently, allowing directors to spend more time teaching music, marching technique, and performance skills rather than repeating directions due to equipment limitations.

The success of this project will be measured through several SMART objectives. Within one month of implementation, the new speaker system will be fully integrated into all marching band rehearsals and performances. During the 2026–2027 marching season, 100% of marching band students will have access to clear instructional audio during every marching rehearsal. The improved communication will reduce instructional interruptions caused by inadequate sound equipment and increase active rehearsal time, allowing students to master music and visual performance concepts more efficiently. By the end of the marching season, students will demonstrate improved rehearsal efficiency, stronger performance consistency, and increased preparedness for public performances and competitive events.

This project also supports the district’s commitment to personalized learning by creating an environment in which every student has equal access to instruction, regardless of their location on the field or learning style. Students learn through verbal instruction, auditory modeling, repetition, and immediate feedback—all of which depend on reliable audio equipment during outdoor rehearsals. By providing every student with consistent access to instruction, this project promotes equitable learning opportunities, encourages student achievement, and strengthens collaboration as students work together toward shared performance goals. Ultimately, this investment equips students with the tools necessary to develop musical excellence, leadership, discipline, and teamwork while enhancing the overall educational experience of the marching band program.
