Our project leverages MagicSchool AI to support Tier 2 and Tier 3 students who are performing half a year or more below grade level. By using AI-powered tools, we can provide personalized, differentiated instruction both in the classroom and at home—targeting skill gaps, scaffolding complex concepts, and increasing engagement. MagicSchool’s suite of tools, including adaptive text levelers, reading and writing scaffolds, guided practice generators, and instant feedback loops, allows educators to tailor instruction with precision and consistency. This initiative empowers students with equitable access to individualized learning while preparing them for a future shaped by innovation and technology.
This project aims to address the growing academic achievement gap among Tier 2 and Tier 3 students who are currently performing at least half a year or more below grade level. These students often struggle with core reading, writing, and comprehension skills that form the foundation for academic success across all subjects. Based on recent benchmark assessments and classroom data, approximately 30% of our students in targeted grades fall into this category, requiring ongoing intervention and support. Despite tiered instruction and intervention systems, many students are not making sufficient growth with traditional methods alone, and additional, individualized tools are urgently needed. MagicSchool AI provides an innovative solution to this challenge by equipping teachers with real-time, AI-powered tools to streamline and personalize instruction. Its features—such as reading level adjusters, lesson scaffolding, reteach prompts, and progress monitoring tools—allow teachers to quickly adapt content and assignments to match the needs of each learner. For students, this means access to appropriately leveled reading passages, step-by-step writing support, and vocabulary development that meets them where they are. Because the platform is accessible both at school and at home, students can continue to practice and grow with tools that respond to their input and adapt accordingly. If funded, this project will directly impact approximately 60 Tier 2 and Tier 3 students across grades 3–5, with additional benefits for their teachers and support staff. Indirectly, it will strengthen the overall instructional framework on campus by modeling how AI can be used responsibly and effectively in education. At the present state, many struggling students experience fragmented instruction or generic interventions that do not meet their specific needs. With MagicSchool AI, we can change that reality—providing every child with targeted, consistent, and empowering academic support designed for their unique learning journey. Now is the time to act. As AI continues to transform industries and education alike, integrating it into our classrooms is not just an opportunity—it is a necessity. Our students deserve access to the tools of the future today, especially those who have historically been underserved. This grant will allow us to bridge the gap between potential and performance through innovation, equity, and individualized instruction.
To address the ongoing academic achievement gaps among our Tier 2 and Tier 3 students in grades 3–5, this project seeks to implement a targeted, AI-supported instructional program using MagicSchool AI. Our students who fall into intervention tiers are currently performing at least half a year or more below grade level in core reading and writing skills. Many struggle to keep pace with grade-level expectations, often due to a lack of individualized instruction, limited access to enrichment outside of school, and language barriers. In the 2024-2025 school year, of the 23 Tier 2 and Tier 3 grades 3-5 students I served, only 43% met the goal of making at least one year’s growth. While 69% of those students did show progress, the overall target was not met. These results point to a clear and urgent need for instructional tools that can more precisely target gaps, engage students in meaningful practice, and support learning beyond the classroom. This is where MagicSchool AI can make a transformative impact. MagicSchool AI offers a suite of tools designed to support educators with instant, individualized, and adaptive instructional materials. With features such as leveled text rewriters, guided reading passages, writing scaffolds, grammar coaches, and feedback generators, it allows teachers to meet students where they are—while still maintaining rigorous, grade-aligned content. The platform helps streamline the planning process and gives educators the ability to quickly differentiate assignments, tailor lessons for varied reading levels, and create personalized interventions for students based on real-time needs. What makes MagicSchool AI especially powerful is that students can also be trained to use it independently at home. This allows learning to extend beyond the school day and gives students access to writing assistance, comprehension help, and vocabulary support anytime they need it. The project will launch at the beginning of the 2025–2026 school year. Teachers and instructional support staff will receive training in August on how to use MagicSchool AI’s educator tools to create differentiated content and monitor student progress. Students will be introduced to the platform during the first grading period and taught how to navigate the tools independently and responsibly. MagicSchool AI will be used daily during our Accelerated Instruction (AI) blocks, with a focus on small-group intervention. These sessions will integrate AI-powered reading and writing activities tailored to each student’s level and learning goals. For example, a struggling reader can receive the same passage as their peers but adjusted to a more accessible Lexile level with key vocabulary support embedded. A student working on writing can use scaffolded sentence starters or grammar correction tools to build confidence and fluency. Students can be taught different math TEKS and then provided with problems with real-time feedback. After students are trained, they will also begin using MagicSchool AI at home for continued practice. Weekly assignments will include reading short passages, completing writing prompts with guided support, or working through math challenges—each tailored to their current academic level. The home component is a key part of this project, as it addresses a persistent challenge: many of our students do not have access to private tutoring or personalized homework help. MagicSchool AI closes that gap by acting like a digital academic coach—one that’s available 24/7, gives instant feedback, and adapts to each learner. To ensure accountability and consistent usage, teachers will track student progress using both MagicSchool AI’s built-in tools and district-required platforms. Monthly progress reviews will be held to analyze student growth, identify gaps, and adjust instruction. The goal is for at least 90% of students to engage with MagicSchool AI on a weekly basis, both during school and at home. By the end of the school year, we aim for 70% of our Tier 2 and Tier 3 students to demonstrate at least one year’s academic growth in reading and writing and math. These goals are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound—ensuring that progress is closely monitored and supported throughout the year. In addition to addressing academic gaps, this project aligns closely with both district and campus improvement goals. Our district emphasizes personalized learning as a central pillar of instructional design, and MagicSchool AI is built for exactly that. It empowers teachers to tailor instruction and equips students with tools that support their individual learning paths. Our campus improvement plan also highlights a need for more effective use of instructional technology and expanded opportunities for students to engage in learning beyond the classroom. This initiative directly addresses both of those priorities. In summary, this project will launch with a clear structure, measurable goals, and consistent accountability. It will directly support struggling readers and writers by providing them with access to personalized, AI-supported learning both in school and at home. It will empower teachers with tools that help them meet the needs of every student without overwhelming them with additional workload. And it will model how responsible, student-centered use of AI can transform education for the better—starting with the students who need it most.
