This project will provide my classroom with light tablets, transparent pattern blocks and locker shelves to create a more engaging, organized and accessible learning space. These tools will spark creativity, support fine motor development and encourage the youngest learners to explore their imagination! It will also help our older students to use the light tablets for tracing and design activities that will allow students to explore lines, shapes and layering in a hands on way!
As the art teacher at a Title I elementary school, I serve students in kindergarten through 5th grade, including special education classes. Many of our students come from different economical backgrounds and some may have limited access to creative resources. Art class is often one of the few places they can freely express themselves, build confidence, and engage in hands-on activities. This project will provide items to enhance our current classroom setup. These tools will support fine motor development and creative thinking, particularly for our youngest learners and students with special needs, who benefit from visual supports and tactile engagement. Currently, students share minimal materials, and classroom organization is a challenge due to limited storage. The new shelves will help create a more functional and accessible space. Overall, this project will shift the art room from a basic setup to a more inclusive, and inspiring learning environment, where all students can thrive creatively and academically.
This project will meaningfully improve student learning by combining developmentally appropriate tools with an enriched classroom environment that supports both academically and creative growth. Light tablets help our youngest students strengthen fine motor skills and visual perception which is essential for developing writing and drawing skills. According to the the National Association of Education of Young Children, tools that provide visual guidance, like these light tablets, can improve hand eye coordination and support learning at all academic and developmental levels. For my early learners and SPED students, light tablets as well as the transparent blocks offer a sensory friendly way to engage in fine motor practice as well as creativity with lower frustration. The locker shelves are also essential to the project as it enhances classroom organization, improving student focus and access to materials. A well organized environment can help reduce clutter and students have more time to focus deeply without distractions.
