STEM Club Projects - Alana Barahona Image
Our STEM Club will use these engaging project kits from CrunchLabs to help students explore science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on learning. Each kit allows students to build fun, interactive devices like airplane launchers and gyroscopic walkers, bringing complex concepts to life in an exciting way. This approach motivates students to think critically, solve problems creatively, and work as a team.

STEM education is critical to preparing students for the future, yet many young learners struggle to connect theoretical concepts to real-world applications. The target population for this project is approximately 20 third, fourth and fifth grade students, many of whom come from diverse backgrounds and may not otherwise have access to enrichment opportunities outside the classroom. By integrating CrunchLabs STEM kits into our curriculum, I will give students the chance to build, test, and experiment with real-world projects that make abstract ideas come alive. These projects are designed to cultivate problem-solving skills, spark creativity, and inspire students to see themselves as future scientists, engineers, and innovators. Without support like this, many students may continue to struggle to see the relevance of STEM in their daily lives, missing opportunities to discover their potential as future innovators and problem-solvers.

To address the need for more engaging, hands-on STEM learning, this project will implement a series of carefully planned, interactive STEM activities using CrunchLabs kits to strengthen students’ understanding of science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. Over the course of the school year, approximately 20 students will participate in at least three STEM projects: the Paper Airplane Launcher, Gyroscopic Walker, and Bubble Factory. Each project is designed to cover key grade-level TEKS standards while developing students’ problem-solving, critical-thinking, and collaboration skills. Students will work in small groups during dedicated STEM club sessions. The activities funded by this grant will include purchasing CrunchLabs kits and necessary consumable materials, preparing project guides for teachers, and creating flexible workstations where students can safely build and test their projects. All activities will take place on campus in my classroom. Projects will be implemented throughout the school year, following a clear timeline. By May 2026, students will complete all three projects and demonstrate their understanding through presentations, demonstrations, reflective discussions, and parent/teacher showcase night. This project directly supports the district’s mission to personalize learning by providing differentiated, project-based experiences that meet students where they are and challenge them to grow beyond the textbook. By giving students opportunities to engage in design-based learning, we help them develop a growth mindset, perseverance, and real-world problem-solving skills that are critical for college and career readiness.
