Our current mascot costume is outdated, worn, and no longer represents the energy and pride of our student body. Additionally, school signage is faded and inconsistent, lacking the vibrancy and clarity needed to unify our campus visually. The mascot serves as a symbol of our identity and spirit—appearing at games, pep rallies, community events, and school functions. Modern signage will further support a welcoming and enthusiastic school culture.
We are proud of our rich history and the deep-rooted traditions that unite our students, staff, and community. However, recent years have shown a noticeable decline in visible school pride and spirit, particularly in student engagement during extracurricular activities and community events. Our outdated mascot costume and aging campus signage no longer reflect the vibrant energy and excellence we aim to promote. This project seeks to address this critical need for renewed identity and pride across our school culture. The existing mascot costume is old, visibly deteriorating, and no longer suitable for public use due to safety concerns and lack of mobility for student performers. Similarly, most campus signage is faded, inconsistent, or missing. These outdated visuals send a message of disconnection—contradicting the very values we aim to instill in our students: pride, unity, and excellence. The target population includes all students enrolled in Crosby ISD, as well as the broader school community of faculty and staff and thousands of local stakeholders. The mascot appears at sporting events, school pep rallies, community parades, student orientations, and fundraising events. The need is urgent. Our school is currently in a phase of growth, with enrollment steadily rising and new programs being introduced. However, the identity that once unified our student body is lagging behind this progress. Without timely intervention, the disconnect between students and school culture may continue to widen, affecting academic motivation, extracurricular participation, and alumni support. We are also in the early stages of a campus-wide initiative to improve climate and culture, and this mascot/signage project aligns directly with that mission. This is a strategic opportunity to launch a symbolic and visible shift toward pride, unity, and school-wide energy.
Research by the National Association of Secondary School Principals shows that students who feel connected to school are more likely to succeed academically and socially. A visible mascot and unified campus design are powerful tools for promoting that sense of connection and belonging. Students participating in the design process will practice collaboration, creative problem-solving, and visual communication skills. Mascot performers will gain confidence, public speaking skills, and leadership experience while representing the school at public events. The enhanced visual branding on signage will create consistency across campus, reflecting professionalism, unity, and pride. These visible cues foster a positive, welcoming environment that supports learning readiness and student motivation. This project is designed with student engagement at its heart. Through the combination of modern visual elements and student-led implementation, this project will enrich our school’s culture, enhance learning environments, and build a legacy of pride and spirit for years to come. We are confident that with the foundation’s support, we can bring our campus vision to life—and create a culture where every student feels they belong, are seen, and are proud to represent their school.
