This project is developmentally appropriate and designed to foster a love for writing in my kindergarten classroom. The resources I have requested aims to equip young learners with the foundational skills necessary to express themselves through writing, while building confidence, creativity, and critical thinking from the very start of their writing journey. 

My Growing Writers project addresses a critical need for early writing development. In kindergarten we set the foundational stage that influences a child's long-term writing success. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress only 37% of students perform at or above grade level in writing by grade 4. This signifies that there is a growing gap that begins in the early years when writing habits and skills first take place. 

The district has a mission to "Write a Little, a Lot." My project will help drive this mission in kindergarten making writing fun and engaging for early learners. My project will be utilized during writers workshop, writing station, and small group time giving students multiple opportunities to grow into becoming great writers.
