Growing Our Own - Paraprofessional to Teacher Scholarship - Christy CoVan, Donna Fontenot, Ellie Stolich, Lana Chase, Nancy Valencia Image
A scholarship for paraprofessionals wanting to become teachers will benefit Crosby ISD as a whole. By investing in individuals who are already working within schools and communities, we can cultivate a dedicated workforce that understands local needs and student backgrounds. These paraprofessionals often have strong relationships with students and staff, making their transition to teaching roles smoother and more effective. Scholarships remove financial barriers, encouraging more paraprofessionals to pursue teaching credentials and fill critical vacancies. Ultimately, this approach builds a sustainable pipeline of qualified teachers who are committed to serving Texas schools for the long term.

Educational paraprofessionals play a vital role in supporting student learning, classroom management, and the overall educational environment. Despite their dedication and firsthand experience, many paraprofessionals face significant financial barriers when pursuing the credentials required to become licensed teachers. The cost of tuition, certification exams, and related expenses often makes it difficult for these committed individuals to advance their careers and fill critical teacher shortages in our schools.

Paraprofessional Scholarship Suggested Guidelines:
*CISD paras with at least one year of experience can apply and must reapply each year. *1,000 scholarship for 5 paraprofessionals that apply (If 5 paraprofessionals do not qualify, the money will be equally divided among recipients.) *$500 per semester for two semesters paid directly to the college of their choice. *Recipients must agree to teach for CISD a minimum of one year upon becoming certified.
