We are seeking funding to create a sensory room for students with and without sensory process challenges. The room will provide a calming, supportive space equipped with tools such as sound machine, tactile walls, and spinning chair seats to meet all the sensory needs. This project will benefit 20 students in special education self contained classrooms along with students with autism, ADHD, and anxiety- related disorders.
Our school serves 626 students, 17% of whom have special education needs. Many struggle with sensory regulation, resulting in behavior issues, emotional distress, and academic disruptions. We currently lack a designated sensory space to support these students effectively.
To improve sensory regulation and reduce classroom disruptions I want to set up a sensory room attached to the life skills classrooms that meet all sensory needs. Items will include some fidgets, sound sensory tubes, textured wall tiles. I will train and encourage staff members by September to use sensory room or checkout materials to help all students in our school so that way we can address students sensory needs and I hope to see a decrease in behavioral referrals among target students by 25%.
