As the great Katherine Patterson says, "It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something worth reading. Something that will stretch their imaginations – – something that will help them make sense of their own lives and encourage them to reach out toward people whose lives are quite different from their own.” —Katherine Patterson  Books bring never-ending knowledge for not just the students who will be in my classroom this year, but to the many students who I will teach in the future. I want to offer high interest books to my student in order to create a deeper love for reading. 

The funding of this project will provide quality books to students from all reading abilities. It will allow students to enjoy rich, popular titles from various genres in order to build their love for reading. It will allow the students as a class to experience author studies and dive deeply into a novel that we can share and read together. It will provide both classroom reading sets as well as individual books from various genres. Students will get the opportunity to explore series books. This love for reading will last a lifetime. 

The project will build my students' love for reading that will last a lifetime. I plan to implement small group teaching using the books as well as whole group teaching. I wish to dive into author's craft in order to translate the learning into my students' writing. This project will initially impact approximately 20 students, but will continue with my future students. These books will open up a world of endless possibilities as just one book can teach us so much. This will offer rich, meaningful conversations as we learn about the various aspects of reading and writing. Some examples are the various methods the author uses to engage the reader, the author's purpose, the different connections that can be made between the book and the reader, the grammar and mechanics used, and how we can translate that into our writing.
