The IXL ELAR (English Language Arts & Reading) program is a comprehensive, standards-aligned resource that covers reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension. It offers adaptive practice that adjusts to each student’s level, helping build skills at an appropriate pace. Teachers can track progress with real-time analytics and use personalized recommendations, or intervention plans to target specific needs.
For 3rd grade students, IXL ELAR helps build foundational reading and writing skills through engaging, standards-aligned practice. It covers key areas like reading comprehension, main idea, context clues, grammar, and sentence structure. The adaptive questions ensure students get the right level of challenge, while instant feedback helps them learn from mistakes. Teachers can use the built-in reports to identify strengths and target areas for growth.
We plan to implement the IXL ELAR program for our 3rd grade students using SMART objectives to ensure the project is effective and measurable. Our goal is to improve student literacy by providing a comprehensive, standards-aligned tool that offers personalized, adaptive practice in key ELAR areas such as reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing. Using grant funds, we will purchase student licenses for IXL ELAR and integrate the program into daily classroom instruction and small group intervention sessions. Activities will take place within our school during designated literacy blocks and enrichment periods, impacting approximately 200 third-grade students. Students will engage in personalized practice sessions, skill-building exercises, and progress monitoring tailored to their individual needs. IXL’s real-time feedback allows students to correct misunderstandings immediately and build mastery through consistent, targeted practice. This project directly supports our district’s mission to personalize learning by offering differentiated instruction and ensuring students are working at their individual level. The program's detailed reports will guide teachers in making data informed decisions, planning interventions, and celebrating progress. Research supports the use of adaptive learning technology to close skill gaps and boost student achievement. According to a study by Johns Hopkins University (Pane et al., 2015), students in classrooms using personalized digital tools like IXL showed significantly higher growth in literacy skills compared to their peers. By bringing IXL ELAR into our classrooms, we aim to transform literacy instruction into a more engaging, individualized, and results-driven experience, ultimately equipping our students with the foundational skills they need for academic success.
