I would like to request a new greenhouse for Newport Elementary School. Our current greenhouse is deteriorating and has lost many of its side panels. The greenhouse has helped us form a strong foundation for student collaboration and STEM learning. We have used the greenhouse to further extend science learning while also creating after school learning opportunities through our greenhouse club "Que Verde".

The greenhouse will help us bring students together that have different demographic backgrounds, academic levels, and grade levels. We strive to bring all students together by working together on learning a lifelong skill, gardening. As a grade level we can share the greenhouse to do an extended science activity. We would also be able to teach students from various grade levels gardening skills through our after-school club. Gardening offers students a wide range of benefits, acting as a practical and engaging way to learn valuable life skills, connect with nature, and enhance academic learning.

Gardening provides a hands-on laboratory for studying plant life cycles, ecosystems, and the scientific method this will help elevate science concepts. Students can measure plant growth, count seeds, and calculate quantities for recipes, applying math concepts in a real-world context. These fundamental concepts promote hands-on learning, environmental responsibility and self-confidence in children. Our campus strives on personalizing learning and improving critical thinking skills. The greenhouse is the structure we need to help establish all these valuable concepts and attain what our campus and district always have their mission on, academic success.
