This project will enhance bilingual reading and language arts instruction for first grade students by providing engaging literacy materials and targeted interventions.  This initiative aims to improve reading fluency and comprehension in both English and Spanish, supporting emergent bilingual learners through research best practices.

Many of our first grade bilingual students enter school with limited literacy skills in both English and Spanish.  They need structured instruction in both languages to build string foundations in decoding, vocabulary and comprehension.  Currently, students have limited access to quality bilingual texts and materials that reflect their language needs and cultures.  This project addresses those needs by providing targeted literacy tools, bilingual books, and instructional support.  My goal is to help bilingual students develop reading skills in both languages and close early literacy gaps that impact long-term success.

The plan includes three components: 1. high-interest bilingual level texts  and decodable readers; 2. mulitsensory phonics and word study tools; and 3. targeted small-group instruction during structured literacy blocks such as guided reading and literacy/daily five workstations. The project will benefit 1st grade bilingual students and support teacher/Para in delivering high-quality, literacy instruction.  Students will participate in daily skill-based rotations with materials in both languages.  Instructional strategies will focus on foundational literacy, vocabulary development, and comprehension in English and Spanish. The use of data (DIBELS, AMPLIFY, and Running Record) will be used to monitor progress.  This project supports our campus improvement plan goals related to early literacy, bilingual education, and data driven instruction. The expected outcomes include increased reading levels, improved phonemic awareness and decoding skills, and increased student engagement with bilingual texts. This project will benefit first grade bilingual students and support the teacher in delivering high-quality literacy instruction.
