BES is building excellence and what better way to build community within our school than doing a project that will bring us ALL together! BES rock snake will be a hands on project that will allow every single student to decorate a rock to create the snake and leave their legacy on campus and inspire others for many years to come!
Art is a brand new program at BES and a great outlet for our students, allowing them to express themselves in ways they have not had the opportunity to do before. This project would allow our 600+ students to participate and would bring a great sense of community to our campus! Since the art program at our campus is brand new, there is a dire need for supplies however, this simple project would allow all of our students to get excited for art, regardless of grade level. It will not only benefit those students who already love being creative but it may spark interest and the love for art in those students who may not know their potential just yet!
Students with access to an arts education are 5x less likely to drop out of school, 4x more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, 3x more likely to pursue a bachelors degree and low-income students with access to arts education are 2x more likely to graduate from college than their peers with no arts education...those are some of the statistics that stood out to me the most when I began asking myself why art was so important to our children. Art is crucial to the development of our children, it improves not only their fine motor skills in their younger years but also their social-emotional development. Art is a safe space for our students to be themselves and let their imagination run wild, it boosts our student's academic achievements and allows them to disconnect from the stress of their core courses during our time together. This project would bring unity to our campus and can give our students an immense sense of pride as they see their projects proudly displayed and knowing they were part of their school beautification. I am hoping that with this project our students can leave behind a legacy as the very first to have an art class on their campus and that their art will inspire others to be creative for many years to come!
