The three Pre-K Bilingual teachers wish to apply for a 2024-2025 grant to purchase quality career dress-up clothes for a Dress Up Station. Our proposal requests funding to purchase clothes that all the Pre-K students can use in the Pre-K Developmental Lab. By acquiring these dress-up clothes, our young students will practice and develop important lifelong skills such as communication, cooperation, and empathy. A Dress Up Station will let our Pre-K students learn many important skills in a fun, hands-on way.
Last year the Pre-K teachers were fortunate enough to start a Pre-K Development Lab in the CKC Pre-K building. Teachers were responsible for setting up a station in the lab. The stations are; Building / Blocks, Science, Writing / Drawing, the Pretend / Home, and the Fine Motor Station. These stations were pieced together using materials that were already in our building or bought and donated by teachers. The students loved going to the pretend / home center the most. They all were so busy pretending that they didn’t even realize they were learning how to get along and solve problems as they played. Now, after a successful start, we would like to expand and create more stations for our students to use their imaginations and explore future dreams. . A Career Dress Up Station would be a great new way to explore and learn together. All 200 Pre-K students have the opportunity to go to the developmental lab twice weekly for 30 minutes. A Career Dress Up Center would make pretend play easier and help build skills from academic skills, and mathematical thinking to physical coordination.
Early childhood research shows that children learn through play. The benefits of playing dress-up include improving their cognitive development by allowing them to use their imagination. Young students who have a variety of opportunities to play dress-up enhance their social-emotional behavior. They practice how to treat other people in fun ways. Dramatic play also provides tons of ways to practice gross and fine motor skills. For example, children have to find the holes to put on a shirt and button it. A pretend and dress-up station is an important part of a well-rounded Pre-K program.
A Career Dress Up Station would be a perfect addition to our lab so our students could continue to explore and use their imagination. Your help will provide opportunities for them to dream about their future as firefighters, doctors, police officers or even owning their own business. The act of playing dress up has been a timeless childhood tradition that has been a treasured memory for many generations in many cultures. A properly stocked and designed dress-up station will nurture our Pre-K students’ imaginations. We appreciate The Crosby Educational Foundation for taking an interest in helping our students continue learning with the purchase of a Career Dress Up Station.
