Rug Alive! - Jaime Grettenberg Image
A classroom rug to provide a safe & fun place to learn for all whole group lessons! However, this rug is more than just a place to sit. It brings animals to life capturing students' attention and creating excitement for learning!

A classroom rug is the main area of our classroom; it is where the teaching, learning, and relationship building takes place. It establishes a dedicated area for circle time, block play, and story time while guiding the classroom flow and movement. It also helps our classroom to stay clean and organized. Every year my class is filled with 18-24 pre-kindergarten students. My students are a diverse group of energized 4 & 5 year old in need of a safe environment to play, learn, and grow in. Our current classroom rug is big enough for 20 students and it is old, worn, faded, stained, and boring. The right rug will help to create a welcoming environment that is cozy & comforting, but will also aid in keeping students engaged in the learning taking place.

Rugs are the foundation of early learning environments. Whole group lessons are all taught on the rug where retention levels tend to be higher than whole group from the seats at a table. The more involved students are in the process, the more interactive lessons become and all students will learn as much from one another as they do from the teacher. And this colorful & beautiful Rugs Alive rug is the perfect addition for my classroom. This colorful & beautiful new Rugs Alive rug is anything but boring and provides enough space for up to 26 students. It uses 3-D augmented reality technology creating an interactive learning experience that supports the Science of Reading and State Standards. It can be utilized for increasing student collaboration, building relationships, and effective communication as well as early concepts of STEM and problem solving. It’s not only for whole group, it can also be used during center time activities. Every letter on the rug is matched to a zoo animal. To make the zoo animal come to life, students use the app downloaded on their iPad to scan the animal’s habitat card. Once scanned they can use the zoo coin to hold the animal in their hand and take photos with the animal. With the use of an iPad on the rug joyful learning will be taking place: *introduction of upper and lowercase letters *singing alphabet song *exploration of 26 3-D animals *taking fun photos with animals *STEM activities *SEL activities *collaboration with classmates This rug will make a big impact on my students and help in promoting a love of lifelong learning!
