The goal of this project is to implement a 65" Dell Interactive Smartboard into our learning and curriculum as part of daily classroom use. This monitor will not only increase student engagement and collaboration, but will serve as a resource to accommodate different learning styles: visual, auditory, hands-on. This addition will help enhance the learning process and promote innovation, making the classroom experience fun and interactive!

This project will address multiple needs, both for teacher and student. Regarding student need, Smartboards are statistically proven to enhance the learning experience, giving students the ability to maximize their technology skills while strengthening collaboration and engagement, making learning fun! As over 360 students walk through my doors from August to May, this project will benefit each and every one, giving them all the opportunity to use and navigate the Smartboard. This project will increase confidence through class presentation, speaking skills and confidence, positively impacting students who may struggle to find their voice in front of their peers. By giving students a Smartboard as a learning and presentation tool, we will be giving them an outlet to build confidence and creativity, setting them up for success in all future classes.

This project is the perfect example of our district's mission to personalize learning for students by fostering creativity and promoting innovation. As this Smartboard enhances both teaching and student learning, it will serve as a tool to help teach public speaking skills to students enrolled in the Intro to Theatre Arts course, building confidence in the process. Students will be able to share their screens with their peers, interact with them using the Smartboard, present projects with ease and and take notes with clarity at my pace as I work using the board. I intend to use this board on a daily basis, both for myself and students, to teach and present to their classmates. All activities will happen in the classroom, impacting around 180 students per semester. The Smartboard will help create lessons that include question and answer sessions, explanations with diagrams, video content, educational games and interactive materials. These devices also significantly simplify the teaching and learning process in the classroom, making each lesson more time-efficient, effective and engaging. As a teacher with the goal of increasing confidence and building a foundation of public speaking skills to students coming to a new campus with hesitance or fear, I want to implement this project to enhance their experience in my classroom, increase retention in our fine arts program, and cater to their different learning styles in the process.
Based on research from a study called "The impact of interactive Smart boards on students’ learning in secondary schools in Botswana" (International Journal of Education and Development using Information and Communication Technology (IJEDICT), 2020, Vol. 16, Issue 2, pp. 22-39), 450 students were observed and interviewed regarding their opinion of Smartboard use in their classroom. "Students indicated that the use of SMART boards enabled them to interact more with each other during the lessons. Seventy-six percent (76%) of the students indicated moderate to high level of interaction with others when using SMART boards. These interactions took place both at small group level and with the entire class."
