Students learn when they are excited about the process. These centers and games will allow our students to practice their literacy skills through a hands on approach. Students will be motivated and engaged. Teachers use small groups to target skills or concepts. In a typical classroom there is a wide range of ability and understanding. While working on needed skills with groups of 4-6 students, the remainder of the class is expected to independently work stations. Currently, stations are lots of prep and minimal interest.

Our 160 3rd grade students deserve the best. There is such a jump from 2nd grade to 3rd grade and the stakes are high with STAAR testing beginning in 3rd as well.

The "Engaging Literacy Centers" project aims to enhance the reading proficiency and engagement of third-grade students through an interactive learning environment. The project will establish a series of reading centers within the classroom, providing students with a wide range opportunities to explore, practice, and develop essential reading skills. Our grant will mainly cover physical centers and games while a small portion will be used to purchase Nearpod memberships for 3rd grade reading teachers. Nearpod allows lessons to be made and given on students' iPads. Students' growth is able to be monitored. Students also increase participation by being held accountable. This website will allow teachers to see what their students are doing and if skills are being mastered.

Our project is focused on 3rd grade Reading and Language Arts curriculum. We hope to increase reading proficiency, enhance critical thinking, and foster teamwork. The reading centers that we have selected will be used during our Accelerated Instruction time. All 3rd grade students will benefit from the centers and games. If we are able to increase student's attention and excitement then the skills learned will increase as well.

We are intending the centers to be utilized by all skill levels. Centers have been selected so that we are able to differentiate learning by providing activities for all students of different abilities.

By creating an interactive and stimulating learning environment, this project aims to empower third-grade students with the necessary reading skills and the confidence to become proficient, independent readers, setting a strong foundation for their academic success and beyond.
