Coding robots encourages student participation in academic application of mathematics, reading, science, and technology-STEM. Utilizing a fun mode of engagement, students will prepare for our changing workforce in which they will have gained knowledge and experience for real-life application. Coding technology is the present "must have" knowledge for this generation of learners, as it will only become more in-depth as artificial intelligence becomes more abundant. This one step in our students' elementary careers is guaranteed to enhance their love of learning and knowledge application in the academic years to come.
Coding provides an academic gateway into user friendly technology, encouraging students to utilize technologies without fear of failure. As we are a Title I campus, the interaction with coding and robots offers an experience that many of our student wouldn't otherwise be able to get. In addition, coding offers all students a new generation life skill that will be foundational for their future academic and workforce careers. Statistically, girls are weaker in STEM skills than boys; however, coding technology enhances all experiences and encourages all learning styles to participate and progress.
Coding provides a direct correlation with attention to detail, skill acquisition, time management, and collaboration. Additionally, students will be applying otherwise abstract concepts such as time and speed relationships. Students must utilize knowledge of grade-level STEM concepts to further higher-level ideas to build codes and specific directions. Using coding experiences will advance academic retention, cooperative learning, and implement a higher level of rigor. This project will not only provide an opportunity for students within a coding club, but will also enrich the entire campus by allowing teachers to facilitate learning in daily activities throughout all academic areas.
