Sensory Path for All by Jennifer Mitchell Image
A sensory path is a walkway that directs students to complete a variety of sensory-motor tasks. The activities that make up a sensory path are typically gross motor tasks that incorporate proprioceptive input, vestibular input, and visual input which is exactly what active little bodies need!

Sitting still is a challenge for lots of kids (and adults!). Especially with the increased usage of technology and screen time for our young students. Crosby ISD is no different. Schools and teachers are starting to realize that children are actually more focused on learning when they’re given a chance to wriggle, fidget, and move around. That’s why classroom yoga breaks, flexible seating, and fidget gadgets have become popular.

A sensory path is another cool option for helping kids re-focus their energy throughout the day. Sensory walks can help students to understand concepts such as cause and effect, self-regulation and problem-solving, to name a few. Sensory paths were originally to support students on the Autism Spectrum, however they are now considered a universal educational tool that is inclusive for all populations of students. I would like to add 2 sensory paths to the common hallways at each elementary campus and 4 at CKC.
