Proposal letter for the Crosby Education Foundation grant by Quantanique White - CMS Image
As an educator, I have been in the educational field for over a decade. Throughout the years, I have noticed a drastic decline in student motivation and discipline, and this was before the pandemic. Statistics has shown that after the outbreak of Covid-19, a gap in student knowledge, motivation, and discipline have decreased even more. I have been desperately trying to explore new, innovative, and engaging ways to reach the students. With the grant funding, not only will I be given additional instructional supplies, but I would like to open a Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) program to my classroom. My district already has a campus wide PBIS store that is extremely beneficial. My goal is to keep that momentum going in my own personal classroom. Having the necessary supplies to house a PBIS store in my classroom, will help to promote positivity by giving out incentives and awards.

The main objective of this project is to enhance student engagement and interest through incentives and positive affirmations. Being in the classroom has allowed me to observe the negative connotations, behavioral issues, and lack of interest in schooling. This loss of motivation is across the board in almost every subject. I have conversed with my team and parents about how to address these problems. I feel that adding in a positive incentive like the PBIS store will support student learning and minimize disciplinary issues. By allowing the scholars to competitively compete for PBIS points this boost their confidence and piqued their interest. Having a PBIS point based classroom store will help motivate the pupils

Times have changed since graduated from high school in 2007. I would like to say, that as a society we have advanced even more over the course of the last decade. Students are now living in a technology based world, which as we know has its advantages and disadvantages. One major disadvantage is that students have replaced school work with screen time. They spend an excessive amount of time on their phones, in front of the television, and on their computers/laptops. Because of this they are reading fewer books and studying less. In a perfect world, these students would use that screen time to read, catch up on schoolwork, complete homework etc., but sadly when given the opportunity they play games. As an educator, I pride myself on implementing interactive education based technology strategies and techniques. I love to incorporate gamification into my classroom. My classroom PBIS store is another way I can gain the students attention and pique their interests.
