Last year I became the Spanish teacher for two Dual Language Kindergarten Classes. I am so excited to be teaching in Spanish only since this is my first language. I went to school in Mexico up to 5th grade and I can relate very well to most of my students because just like I did when I was a child, most of them are learning a second language. I will be able to help students increase their academic skills and transfer them to English. Many of these students have parents that are not English Proficient and struggle in their every day life interactions such as going to the store or to a restaurant. I remember when I was a teenager, I was able to help my parents by translating when they had hospital visit, when they would go make utilities payments or when they would just go to the store. I can imagine my students in the future doing that and being able to help their parents as well. With these spanish engaging materials I will be able to provide effective instruction to my Kindergarten students and help them become confident in their native language to later transfer those skills to English.

Many of my students are at-risk of not graduation high school because they are limited English proficient. Two classes with about 40 students will be benefiting from this donation if funded. These students need to acquire their native language literacy skills in order to transfer them later and be successful in English. As many of you know, the Crosby Community is growing. Many of the people that are coming to Crosby are Immigrants and are Spanish speakers. It is a pleasure to serve this community and to be able to make a difference in families' lives. Last year I had parents of some of my students that unfortunately were illiterate. I felt really bad because the student was eager to learn and he did learn to read in his native language in my classroom. I hope he is able to help mom in the future and parents find the help they need to get better at reading. Literacy opens doors and minds and help us be successful in life.

I plan to develop centers for small group instruction that will help support student's individual needs. I am a teacher of two classes with approximately 40 students. By helping fund this project 40 students will benefit from Literacy instruction in their native language, they will become more confident and will eventually transfer those skills to the English Language. My campus has the mission that all students without exception or excuse will be proficient or advanced in reading and writing and mathematics. By helping funding this project you can help accomplish that mission.
